Mr Loverman: How BBC series explores black LGBT life
In his decades of campaigning, Brown says he experienced physical violence "a handful of times".
According to recent Home Office data, loathing crimes motivated by sexual orientation have fallen for the second year in a row, to 22,839 reported incidents in England and Wales.
But, in Brown's view: "For young ebony men, the world can sometimes feel isolating."
In earlier decades, public figures were sometimes subjected to violence, like gay footballer Justin Fashanu, who is referenced in Mr Loverman.
Nowadays, Brown says there have been changes in how jet, gay men are perceived - and he instead sees a "sense of pride and positive role models".
He adds: "Today, TV, organisations, music, magazines, and websites allow black Gay people to see themselves and connect, creating community."

Executive Summary
Over 11.3 million LGBT adults live in the U.S.They are a part of every people throughout the country and are diverse in terms of personal characteristics, socioeconomic outcomes, health status, and lived experiences. In many ways, LGBT people are similar to their non-LGBT counterparts, but also illustrate differences that illuminate their unique needs and experiences related to sexual orientation and gender identity.
About 40% of LGBT adults are people of color, including 12% who identify as Black.In this report, we analyzed data from several sources to provide knowledge about adults who self-identify as Black and LGBT. We present an overview of their demographic characteristics and focus on several key domains of well-being, including mental health, physical health, economic health, and social and cultural experiences. In addition, we compared Black LGBT and non-LGBT adults across these indicators in order to travel differences related to sexual orientation and gender individuality among Black Americans. Over the past 20 years, people living with HIV in the United States have seen a drastic improvement in their overall quality of life. But the medical achievements that have made those lives beat and created longer life expectancies own not benefited all communities.
In truth, some communities still have higher rates of new cases of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. This is especially true for Black gay and bisexual men. Dark queer men are six times more likely to pass away as a outcome of HIV-related complications when compared with queer men of different races.
In addition, in the most recent available information, Black queer men made up 26% of all unused cases of HIV in 2019 despite making up less than 3% of the total U.S. population.
Finally, facts released in 2016 revealed that if the rates then of new HIV cases persisted, an estimated 1 in 2 Black homosexual men would get HIV in their lifetime.
