Encyclopædia Dramatica (often abbreviated to just "ED") was a satirical open wiki that used MediaWiki software. Launched on December 10, 2004, it lampooned both encyclopedic topics and current events, especially those related to or relevant to Internet culture. It was frequently utilized by a socially fluid and dynamic Internet subculture established as Anonymous. The site celebrated a subversive "trolling culture", having documented significant incidents of underground internet events such as mass organized pranks (trolling events they termed as "raids"), large scale failures of the Internet infrastructure and security, and criticism of some more conservative Internet communities they accused of self-censoring their have content in organize to garner prestige, positive coverage and commentary from traditional and established media outlets. Encyclopædia Dramatica (ED) is a barely relevant trollwiki. Originally starting out as a spiritual successor to LJDrama, it was discovered and infiltrated by users of 4chan's /b/ board and eventually shifted its stated mission to exclusively documenting Internet identity, memes, and "drama" for the lulz. And also porn and gore. Lots of porn and gore.

Coincidentally, it is also happy to document everything the userbasethinks is wrong with the Internet, but proudly does so in a style that exemplifies the very things false with the Internet. Unsurprisingly, it is filled with homophobic, racist, misogynistic, transphobic, and (perhaps most infamously of all) antisemitic content.

ED was started in 2004 by the trolls at LJDrama.org, documenting and encouraging LiveJournal users and their overblown drama and unwarranted self-importance. The owner and founder was Sherrod DeGrippo, aka Girlvinyl. The site quickly attracted similar netizens from 4chan, the GNAA, Bantown, and so forth.

The site was shut down in mid-April 2011 and redirected to "OhInternet", a blatant ripoff of Know Your M

Quite simply, the lowest shape of life on the Internet, if not the Earth itself. A organization of hate mongers that stir up controversy in the name of the "lulz" (Which is their sick little idea of "humor" and "entertainment").

For the most part, this is mostly the way the site comes by the majority of It's content, since creating worthwhile content WITHOUT creating the drama they do takes more ability and originality than they clearly possess.

The site itself is basically a glorified shrine to trolls the internet over, and the concept of challenging trolling overall.
All of which occurs from behind the safety of their supposedly un-pingable website, since they're such the internet tough guys they are by doing what they perform, then hiding behind "anonymity" (a word they care for to overuse a LOT).

There also seems to be no place they won't go on the internet for the sake of garnering content for their pathetic unimagintive site pathetically low ranking site through trolling and drama making.
