Connor plays Nick in the punch Netflix love story about two teenage boys.
He has previously spoken about social media users "pressuring us to come out when maybe we're not ready".
The star, who has also appeared in Elton John biopic Rocketman and the TV adaptation of His Dark Materials, tweeted in May: "Twitter is so funny man. Apparently some people on here realize my sexuality better than I do..."
He then told the Reign with Josh Smith podcast there was "a danger" to speculating on social media.
He said: "In the cast, we're all 18 and we have a few people in their early 20s, and even with those older members of the cast, we're all so young, and to initiate speculating about our sexualities and maybe pressuring us to come out when maybe we're not ready...

On Oct. 31, 2022, Kit Connor, one of the stars of Netflix’s “Heartstopper,” took to Twitter to announce his bisexuality. Many of the replies empathized with him, as viewers were upset that he was forced to relinquish parts of his private life after facing accusations of “queerbaiting” when he was spotted with a girl around his age.
For many bisexuals, such as myself, this is not a recent phenomenon. While there possess been strides in the queer community to be more accepting of bisexuality, there is still pressure to fall into the binary of straight or gay. Kit Connor is not an exception, and neither are multiple other celebrities that have been accused of “queerbaiting” because they are with someone of the opposite sex and haven’t been explicit about their queerness. Heartstopper celebrity Kit Connor felt compelled to enter out as bisexual person on Twitter earlier this week, citing pressures from fans making him perceive forced to reach out when he wasn't ready to.
In the LGBTQIA+ community's push for greater media representation, biphobia and a feeling of entitlement to other people’s personal lives is showing.
Why did this transpire, and what can we learn from this? Here are three reasons and three lessons.
1. This debacle arose from misguided intentions.
The push for more representation of gender non-conforming people across all industries is electrifying for us.
We grew up in times when there was no positive representation of LGBTQIA+ people on the big screen, and so now, rightfully, we're demanding it.

"Heartstopper" star Kit Connor came out as bisexual person Monday, saying he felt forced to share his sexual orientation after he was accused of queerbaiting by viewers of the popular Netflix show.
In a rare Twitter upload, the British actor wrote: “Back for a minute. I’m bi. Congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. I think some of you missed the aim of the show. Bye.”
While Connor did not exclaim exactly why he felt forced to come out, he posted the note weeks after he said he was "deleting Twitter" amid accusations of queerbaiting, or benefiting from appearing as queer without claiming the community explicitly. That followed the emergence of photos showing him holding hands with Maia Reficco, his co-star in “A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow.”

The coming-of-age story based on Alice Oseman's 2018 graphic novel of the same name follows the journey of love between teens Nick Nelson (Connor) and Charlie Spring (Joe Locke).
Connor broke his Twitter hiatus on Monday with a brief word telling his fans he was "bi" and accused others of missing the point of the show.
The 18-year-old tweeted: "back for a minute. i'm bi. congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. i consider some of you missed the signal of the exhibit. bye."
A number of people online had accused him of "queerbaiting" by taking the role of a gay ethics because they presumed Connor was linear in real life.
Queerbaiting is when vertical people appropriate LGBTQ culture for clout or profit and do not correctly credit the people from which they have taken inspiration.
Connor quit Twitter in September after months of trolling about his sexuality since the show first premiered on Netflix in April.
