What does bay hope church believe about gay marriage

San Francisco’s former United Methodist Bishop Melvin Talbert gave a sermon at the denomination’s global conference last year, urging pastors to defy church law by performing gay wedding ceremonies.

On Saturday, Talbert plans to answer that call himself, marrying parishioners Bobby Prince and Joe Openshaw in Birmingham, Ala.

Church leaders predict Talbert’s action will aggravate a growing conflict between conservative and liberal factions of the United Methodist Church – one of the last mainline Protestant denominations that bans homosexual marriage.

With roots in the civil rights movement and a past stint as president of the National Council of Churches, Talbert appears destined to grow the most prominent of the clergy members headed for formal church trials for their defiance – a process that begins with a complaint from a church member.

“Yes, I expect someone will file a complaint against Bishop Talbert,” said the Rev. Tom Lambrecht, vice president and general manager of Good News, a conservative group that advocates continued support for paragraph 304.3 of the United Methodist Book of Discipline, which calls homosexuality “incompatible with Christian teaching.”

March 2 - Beyond

Dear Desire Friends, (I'm not sure why this copied red!)
It's been a BIG week.
Mary Harsh and I spent the first part of this week in St. Louis at the Beyond Conference, knowledge with other gradual and invitational churches. Many of them are also Merged Methodist, and yes, they had heard of us (thanks to our cherished Ms. Penny!) What's fun is crowd thinks of us as role models! It was so nice to worship with people around the country who use They/Them pronouns for God in worship music, concern about inclusive spaces, and want to grow further in the "absolutely everyone".
The second half of the week was spent preparing for the 2020 General Conference of the United Methodist Church -- being held in late April/early May 2024 in Charlotte NC. General Conference is basically equivalent to the U.S. Congress in the UMC nature. This is an oversimplification, but whereas Catholicism is led by a unique Pope who directs all polity or independent nondenoms with a pastor and local board making all decisions, Together Methodists are associated globally and produce polity decisions with democratically elected delegates from all geog

In September 2012, I attended the inaugural conference for Restored Hope Network (RHN) at Sunrise Community Church  in Sacramento, CA. The forming committee for RHN had been gathering for several months in response to the belief that Exodus International was straying from its roots.

When they concluded that their differences with Exodus were irreparable, several Exodus member ministries resigned and formed their control umbrella ministry claiming they had been called to go back to the roots of Exodus to do ministry work to those that identify as gay or gay Christians.

This is a complicated topic, and will be presented as several posts. In his keynote address entitled “Back to the Future,”  RHN forming committee member, Frank Worthen, framed the split from Exodus International. RHN had been birthed in an effort  to “reestablish what we mind we had established 37 years ago.”

Please read all the sections. They help one another and, together form an overview of my perspective of the dynamics of what has happened and is happening in the traditional Christian church ministry to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

Same-sex marriage, LGBTQ+ clergy inclusion causing division within Merged Methodist Church

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Before someone even walks into Allendale Joined Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, they already comprehend it's an accepting place.

A welcome message displayed at the entrance explains how Allendale is a "sanctuary for all." And all means all—regardless of race, ethnicity, economic situation, sexual orientation, gender individuality or expression, background or belief, age, physical condition or marital status.

But dozens of other United Methodist churches across the mention, such as Oneco Merged Methodist in Bradenton, don't agree with moves to make the church more inclusive and diverse.

Pastors performing same-sex marriages and allowing LGBTQ members to be ordained have grow a divisive issue.

"We accept in what the scriptures say about marriage and sexuality and gender," Rev. Jeremy Rebman said. Rebman, a pastor, is the President of Wesley Covenant Association, an advocacy community that helps guide churches that are leaving the United Methodist denomination.

But Rev. Andy Oliver just wants people to comprehend that they can detect the love of a pastor, church and God at Allen

Beyond the Clobber: Embracing Love

For centuries, the church has blown it when it comes to the subject of lgbtq+ relationships.  Instead of following a religion where Jesus identified the most significant thing as value, and told us not to determine people, for the most part, Christians have done nothing but hate and judge people with sexual identities that are outside the norm.

People have consistently and unsurprisingly used the Bible to justify their loathe and judgment.  It’s sickening to observe how the Bible has been used to justify every terrible thing people have ever done to each other.  People glorified their hate of the other while misusing the Bible as a weapon to justify the holocaust, crusades, slavery, degradation of women and immigrants and needy people.  Whenever the Bible gets weaponized against a organization of people, it’s an affront to everything Jesus taught us.

Kids are attempting suicide because they believe God rejects them.

At first glance, most people suppose that the Bible condemns homosexuality and is contrary to Christian morality.  Last week the ONA group showed a poignant documentary, They Know Not What They Do, about the effects that can have on young p
