Florida is enacting a record six expressly anti-LGBTQ+ bills into law this year, more than the last seven years united.

Today, Gov. DeSantis signed HB 1069, which silences educators by prohibiting any instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity from Pre-K through 8th grade, SB 254, an utmost gender affirming care disallow, and HB 1521, an anti-trans bathroom bill.

Florida Gov. and presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis said the NAACP is pulling a "stunt" by calling Florida hostile to Black Americans, other minorities and Homosexual people.

The NAACP has issued a warning that Florida is "openly hostile for African Americans, people of color, and LGBTQ individuals." In an interview with DeSantis, CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Norah O'Donnell asked if he would portray the entire land, and whether everyone could feel welcome in DeSantis' America.

"A hundred percent," DeSantis responded. "And that is politics. That's a stunt that they're playing. They obviously have (a) very left wing agenda, which I don't begrudge them that. But in Florida, our unemployment rate amongst African Americans is way lower than Fresh York, California and these blue states. We have more Black-owned businesses in Florida than any state in the United States."

"I acquire more African American students on scholarships for our school-choice program than any other state in the United States," DeSantis continued. "And so we've shown people can flourish in Florida regardless of their race, ethnicity, any of that."

Still, O'Donnell pointed out that becaus

BREAKING: Gov. DeSantis Signs Extreme Preemption Bill

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, queer, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, condemns Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for signing SB 170, which discourages cities from passing non-discrimination ordinances by raising the barriers to proposing ordinances and making it easier for individuals and businesses to challenge ordinances in court.

According to the latest data this year from PRRI, back for LGBTQ+ rights is on the rise in Florida and nationwide: 80% of Florida residents support nondiscrimination protections, and 66% of Florida residents argue against refusal of service on religious grounds. About eight in ten Americans (80%) favor laws that would protect Gay people against discrimination in jobs, general accommodations, and housing. This reflects a dramatic increase in the proportion of Americans who help nondiscrimination protections since 2015, when it was 71%.

Human Rights Campaign Vice President of Legal Sarah Warbelow issued the following statement today:

“As Americans, we all share the bedrock value that every person deserv

Ron DeSantis

—Declared that Florida “will not comply” and would “fight back” against the new Title IX rules announced by the Biden administration, which include specific protections for LGBTQ+ students and prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation. In a video DeSantis stated, without basis, that Florida “will not let President Joe Biden attempt to insert men into women’s activities and infringe upon the rights of parents.” The Florida Department of Learning process has instructed school districts in the state to “not initiate any changes” to comply with the new Title IX guidelines, arguing that the updates “violate various federal and state laws.”

—Staffers on DeSantis’s presidential campaign team kept re-tweeting videos from a DeSantis fan account that “adds Nazi imagery to clips of the Florida governor.” DeSantis communications staffer Nate Hochman was fired over the matter, and a person with information of the videos said Hochman made the videos himself. In a separate incident Hochman told ivory nationalist Nick Fuentes that he would be a good influence on immature conservatives. “I think Ni

DeSantis signs bills affecting LGBTQ community

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a slate of legislation Wednesday targeting the LGBTQ community, including restrictions on transgender health nurture, content on LGBTQ identities in schools, transgender bathroom use and drag performances in the state.

The news comes on the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, May 17.

What the new laws say

Florida state bill SB 254 will restrict gender-affirming healthcare for transgender people under the age of 18, allowing the state to take temporary custody over any child who receives such treatment.

"Sex-reassignment prescriptions and procedures are prohibited for patients younger than 18 years of age," the legislation reads.

Gender-affirming care has been found to be associated with improved mental health of transgender adolescents and teenagers, according to research in the Fresh England Journal of Medicine and JAMA Pediatrics.

House Bill 1069 will expand the Parental Rights in Learning law, dubbed the "Don't Say Gay" law by critics. The new measure will restrict classroom manual on gender identity or sexual orientation from
